New Job Just imagine a new job which issued me with a new smart uniform. Stand around in public wearing my uniform and politely serving the public. Especially calling men “Sir”. Wouldn’t that be cool? Be the first to comment on this article |

Ironing What are the top five activities a house boy does? It occurred to me when reading that I talk a huge amount about certain of the house boys’ responsibilities. Well that should not really be a surprise as a house boy focuses his life on serving master and around making him more comfortable. That naturally means some responsibilities will take precedence. Dice Punishment The method I use for punishing and hence keeping my house boys under control has been mentioned before in this journal but I thought it was time to revisit the subject. House boys, who serve me, have a punishment book which they have to keep on them all the time, as not having the punishment book, is itself, a punishable offence. In their book they record any punishment points that I give them for such things as not calling me sir, not being suitable attired (tie not hard to their shirt collar, uniform not smart enough, creases in their shirt, socks not pulled up fully, shoes not polished and clean etc.) as well as having hair which is too long, finger nails which are dirty or not having shaved properly. These days they mainly earn their points for not doing a chore or service to the standard that I expect and that includes ironing of shirts which is a weekly task for both house boys do, to the nature of the smart uniforms that they are expected to wear. Hoovering When a house boy is on duty their appearance needs to be immaculate and their service better. In terms of on duty here I’m referring to when they are serving in the smartest uniform. Not that a boy can ever appear anything but smart, but there is a slightly lower expectation when they are working as a cleaner or gardener. Be the first to comment on this article |

House Boy For at least the last two hundred years master’s have wanted there servants to look good. A smart servant with his head up high adds prestige to a house hold. Its one reason that during the Victorian and Edwardian period the taller better looking footman even got paid more. Be the first to comment on this article |
